Monday 4th AUGUST 2008
Well it’s the first day of my trial and although shocked at the amount of tablets I have to take I feel optimistic. The supplement plan was hard to figure out as the book did not state brand names only the contents but I put together a spread sheet which told me what to take, when and how much and I have sent this to Stephanie to make sure I am following it correctly. My e-mail is below.
Hi Stephanie,
Just to let you know that i have received my supplements and i started the programme today. I have been a little confused by the amount of supplements and after going through the book have put together a time table so i don't get lost. Would it be possible to look over my timetable to ensure i have the right mix please? I do have to say that being a Health and Safety Manager i feel i may need to carry out a noise assessment on the rattling noise that my stomach is now making because of all the tablets inside of me;-)
I spoke to my herbalist who said it was best that I came of the supplements that she prescribed me until at least I had finished this trial.
No chocolate at all today which is a first and have banned myself from all fizzy drinks and caffeine.
Tuesday 5th August
Taking all these tablets is making me nauseous and I’m not sure if I can keep this up. The worst are the “Connect “and the “Brain food strips” due to the revolting taste.
Another day with no chocolate, fizzy drinks or caffeine.

Had a reply off Stephanie
Dear Dave – well done on doing the time table! I’ve spoken to Patrick re your supplements and he’s asked me to find out a bit more information from you as this is a lot of supplements you’ll be taking! He wants to know whether for your sleep profile if you actually have problems getting to sleep or is your problem more that you are nodding off? Also could you tell me what your alcohol consumption is a week? And re your homocysteine he says your score is not that high so it might be worth getting your homocysteine checked as you may not be needing to take these supplements. To combat your sugar addiction the most important things for you are to go on the low GL diet and take the basic pack plus the mood pack. Also the digestaid should be taken with breakfast rather than on wake up.
If you could get back to me with these answers that would be great and hopefully we can cut down the amount of supplements you’re taking – these won’t be harmful to you but it’s possible you might get some nausea so it would be good to see if you do need them all (and stop the rattling!)
My Reply
Hi Stephanie,
Thanks for the reply. I'll try and give you as much information as possible.
Sleep:
I have a real problem where i feel fatigued most of the time during the day and at night i struggle to sleep though the past few nights don't seem to have been a problem. There are many occasions including yesterday where i have had to have a sleep at lunch time and even pull over on the way home. I don't drink tea or coffee though after reading Patrick's book i have cut out fizzy drinks, especially the ones with caffeine in them. I train at the gym 2 to 3 nights a week and usually have a Red Bull or pro plus with some aspirin to give me a boost before i train though this week i have dropped those and replaced it with a Banana which worked surprisingly well.
Alcohol:
I don't drink what i would consider i high level of alcohol but i have put an average consumption below though my weekend consumption maybe zero if i don't go out at all as i rarely drink at home. I don't drink Lager and only touch real ales though doubt that makes any difference.
Sunday to Thursday = 4 pints (I pop out twice a week and have no more than 2 pints)
Friday Nights = 2 to 3 pints
Saturday = 3 to 4 Pints
Homocysteine:
I think that as my score was not that high and they are the worst smelling tablets of them all i may drop the dosage of this down to one a day and look into finding out how i get tested. On a side note i found this a very interesting read.
GI diet:
I will go over this chapter again to ensure that i am following this correctly.
Basic pack:
Which is the basic pack? I have a detox pack and brain food pack.
Mood:
I am taking both the Mood food and the Chill food tablets.
One area i don't have to worry about is my water intake as i am taking that many supplements with water intake is now above average:-) No fizzy drinks or caffeine but nick some malteasers of the guy who sits next to me though wasn’t worth it.

Dear Dave that’s great – thanks for that detail – as your sleep problem is mainly to do with sleeping during the day you should cut out the Sleep Prescription – also having cut out the caffeine drinks including the Red Bull should help you sleep at night. Great that you go to the gym too – just try and make sure it’s before 7pm it at all possible. As you say, cut out the homocysteine prescription for now and get tested – you can order a test from Health Products for Life - http://www.healthproductsforlife.com/content.asp?id_Content=1098
I think if you can it would be good if you can cut down on the number of pints you have a week – if you could get down to a maximum of 4 pints a week – perhaps just having halves and having a glass of water with them? You could then probably cut out the liver detox prescription and drinking less alcohol should help you sleep at night too. You should also find on the GL diet that you don’t want the beer so much and as beer contains sugar the supplements to help you relieve your sugar addiction will also be helping.
So to recap – what I recommend you keep taking is the Optimum Nutrition Pack with Brain Food, the Mood Prescription and the Digestion prescription – and hopefully you won’t be rattling quite so much!!!
Good luck and do come back to me with any more queries.
Well although I don’t class myself as a big drinker I’m not giving up beer as it is one of my few pleasures so I will persevere with the Detox strips, as for exercising my classes do not start until 8 but I have stopped my usual pre workout red bull and aspirin mix to get my heart pumping and replaced this with 2 bananas.

Thank god I haven’t got take those disgusting yellow Connect tablets again so less tablets to take which is a relief though I can’t help feel no difference to how I was before but I guess its early days yet.
Now I know that I am drinking enough water due to the sheer number of tablets I am taking so why is my Urine bright yellow? In fact it is almost glows and I’m sure superman would mistake it for Kryptonite!
Kind of getting used to taking the tablets now (except the brain food) yuk!
I plan to sit down tonight a plan my meals for next week to follow the GI plan which is going to be the hardest part of this trial.
No chocolate, fizzy drinks or caffeine.
Friday 8th August
I’m feeling very perky today but not sure if it’s because its because of the tablets or because its half day Friday? Fridays is a bad day for me as I always have a bacon sandwich and a couple of bars of chocolate which went ahead with but something happened that shocked me today, I started eating the chocolate and never got the usual pleasure I get so one bite later I gave both bars away which has never happened before? Part of me is a bit gutted that I did not enjoy the first bite but part of me was wondering if this was anything to do with the trial.
Saturday 9TH August
I am really struggling to stick to the GI plan as I am having cravings for carbs. I don’t usually eat this many carbs so need to try to stick to GI plan.
On the evening I became very anxious and I don’t know why I felt like I was craving something and I don’t know why. I had to get out of the house just to take my mind of things. Still feeling the need for carbs but not sugar more potatoes and pastries.
Sunday 10th August
Not as anxious but still feel very uneasy. I have had to stop having the brain food as they are making me throw up; I have felt ill taking these since I began but it seems to be getting worse so I have no choice but to stop.
I have had a problem for a few months now where I have had the shakes in my hands and although I still have this I have noticed that they have calmed down greatly. I am still craving Carbs!
